Lasagna is a type of casserole that layers meat, sauce, and cheese. There are numerous variations, including some with spinach and others with white sauce. It was originally known by another name, but over time came to be known as lasagna after the special type of pan used to bake it. Versions of lasagna can be found all around the world. The Greeks make Pastitsio, a type of lasagna that includes large tubular noodles, ground meat, feta cheese, and cinnamon. In Poland there is Lazanki, which uses flat lasagna noodles, cabbage, and bacon.

The following recipe is the more traditional form of lasagna that most people are familiar with, the southern style lasagna. This means that it uses a tomato sauce, mozzarella, and ricotta cheese as part of the recipe.

What You Will Need

In order to prepare your lasagna, you will need to gather a few ingredients if you do not have them at home already. You will want:

o An 8 ounce box of lasagna noodles

o A 15 ounce can of crushed tomatoes

o A 28 ounce jar of pasta sauce, preferably one with a bold flavor, though any flavor will work

o One pound of Italian sausage

o 15 ounces of ricotta cheese

o 8 ounces of shredded mozzarella cheese

o 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning

o ¼ teaspoon of garlic powder

o ¾ cup of dry red wine such as burgundy or cabernet

Preparing The Lasagna

Before you get started, you will want to preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Next you will need to prepare the noodles. Fill a large pot with water and bring to a boil. Once water is boiling add the noodles and cook for about eight minutes. The noodles should still be slightly firm. Drain on a paper towel and return to the pan. Coat with a little olive oil and allow to cool. To make the sauce you will want to brown the sausage in a large skillet.

Once browned, add in the pasta sauce, crushed tomato, seasoning and garlic powder. Reduce the heat to low and add the red wine. Continue to cook and stir for another 10 to 15 minutes.

Once your sauce is made, you will have to assemble the lasagna. You will need a 13 x 9 pan. Ladle a quarter of the sauce into the bottom of the pan. Layer noodles on top, side by side. Ladle on another quarter of the sauce, and then sprinkle with a third of the mozzarella and a third of the ricotta cheeses. Repeat these steps twice to form the different layers, ending with a ricotta topping. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. Allow to set 10 minutes before cutting to serve. Ask "Why Outsource?"

Asking the question "Why Outsource?" would seem to be counter to general economic movements and run against prevailing industry beliefs. Many companies are outsourcing as standard procedure, following industry trends. Yet, the question needs to be asked. After all, call centers have been supporting the needs of customers since the telephone was offered to the public, and cost has always been a factor in the history of call centers.

Even from the beginning, Alexander Graham Bell at the Boston Telephone Dispatch company hired the first female telephone operator, Emma Nutt, on September 1, 1878 for two reasons: lower costs and higher customer satisfaction.

Bell determined that women were better behaved than young men. Women had pleasant voices that customers-most of whom were men-preferred. They could also be paid less and supervised more strictly than their male counterparts. Since then, women have obtained equal treatment and equal pay, but the ability to calmly handle customers with courtesy and patience has set standards that have lasted for more than 100 years.

Businesses are still challenged to find ways of minimizing costs and maximizing profits while retaining their customer through service excellence. When making the decision to outsource, businesses are seeking outsourcers with the ability to deliver high customer satisfaction plus cross-sell/up-sell revenue instead of being just a low-cost provider.

Many businesses also realize they are not that good at running their own call centers and are looking for organizations with core capabilities in call center operations and customer service. The top outsourcing companies have tens of thousands of agents in call centers around the world with the best technology available and the ability to leverage their scale and efficiency in ways your company cannot duplicate.

Still, you need to know how to project the load for inbound and outbound calls, the life cycle of the product or services, and the level of service to be maintained. This may vary between outsourcing inbound services and outbound services. For outbound call centers, planning the workload is relatively easy. The number of agents will be dependent on the number of calls to be dialed.

In contrast, the rate that inbound calls will be received is harder to predict. You may not get any calls for minutes, and then receive a rush of calls at one time. Thus, forecasting your call patterns is critical to determining whether to outsource or not. If the staffing model is too high, the cost benefits are minimized. If the staffing model is too low, customer service will suffer.

Businesses operating internal call centers should have historical reports with how many calls are received in late August versus those received during the holidays between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The same reports should tell you how many calls are received Monday versus Thursday, or even for specific times of the day. Analyzing the data should reveal patterns that can be used for forecasting, as long as factors that could alter the patterns are taken into consideration.

Your forecasting may improve over time, but it is impossible to accurately predict how many calls you will receive at specific times, days, or seasons. The only fact you can count on is that call flow will not be even. From time to time, agents will be idle. At other times, callers will be waiting for the next available agent.

So why ask if you should outsource? The answer depends on establishing the expectations of how an outsourcing company will handle your calls. There are many variations on outsourcing with no off-the-shelf solutions. Each solution depends on your business expectations, goals, and objectives. Moreover, you need to be sure your unique needs will be met and your outsourcing company is capable of meeting your expectations for cost and customer service.

How to Prevent Or Remove Common Stains

No matter where you live or what you wear, there's a good chance you may at some point experience a spill that could leave a stain on your carpet, your furniture, or your clothing. It might happen at the office, as well, which can create a negative impression for clients or coworkers. For this reason, it is a good idea for all of us to have some idea of how to prevent or clean common stains. Keep in mind that those with small children, pets, or elderly and disabled houseguests may be more prone to dealing with spills and possible stain-making products.

First, set up a routine that everyone can follow to reduce the likelihood of spills. Insist that family members eat at the table. Tell them to pour beverages over the sink or at the kitchen counter rather than in mid-air at the refrigerator. Have them open canned goods by holding them over the table or counter workspace. Then, if the container is jarred and some of the product falls out, it won't end up on your clothes or the floor and create a stain that might be difficult to clean.

Inform everyone in your household what they should do in case a basic stain starts to form. For example, for pet accidents, keep a handy cleaner available for use in a spray bottle, but first make sure the accident is absorbed with paper towels or an old rag. Read all instructions carefully and remind family members to do the same. Never mix chemicals in hopes of making a stronger solution, as this can cause potentially dangerous fumes. If someone is injured and drips blood on the carpet, explain how to use a cold-water spray or absorption technique to remove the stain while it is still fresh. Find or make a list of stain cleaning tips and hang it in the utility closet or the back of a cupboard door for easy access.

Keep stain-cleaning supplies readily available, and tell everyone where to find them. If necessary, mark product containers with a marker or a hand-made label so that everyone knows which products should be used for certain stains. Always keep cleaning supplies out of the reach of toddlers and pets, however. Wash stained cleaning rags immediately, or at least put them to soak to remove the stain before it sets.

Treat clothing stains with commercial stain removers before washing them in the laundry. You may need to pre-treat them a couple of times to remove all evidence of discoloration. After laundering the clothing, whatever stain remains will be harder to get rid of, especially after it goes through the dryer.

There are many ways to eliminate stains on skin, fabric, wood, and other household substances, so find the safest products and keep them on hand for those little emergencies that can leave a permanent impact in your home.

Older and Wiser - Basic Legal Knowledge For Living Well to the End

A Cautionary Tale I recently had a daughter call about bringing her mother to me to draw up a trust. I questioned why the mother wasn't calling me herself which should have happened since the mother, not the daughter, would be my client. I asked the daughter some typical screening questions over the phone to gain an understanding of how lucid her mother was. The daughter assured me that though her mother was aging, she was able to execute legal documents.

Once they arrived at my office, I quickly realized that the mother was so far down the road to total dementia that she did not even know the names of her children, let alone what she was going to leave to them. The mother was no longer legally eligible to make a legal document. Short of spending thousands of dollars in legal costs to establish a conservatorship, there is no remedy for someone who waits too long and has lost mental capacity without making an estate plan.

If you love them, don't make them go through probate In the scenario described above, rather than developing a simple trust and back-up Will that would have cost less than a couple of thousand dollars, the woman's estate will have to pass to her children by way of an expensive and time-consuming process called probate.

A big irony is that people may be reluctant to incur legal fees to make an estate plan. The reality is that having an estate plan virtually always reduces legal costs, by magnitudes. Probate, which is required if an estate has a fair market value of $100,000 or more (excluding assets such as retirement accounts if they have designated beneficiaries) results in large fees for executors and their attorneys, based on a formula set forth in the California Probate Code, which is the law governing estate administration. Even with a Will, if the estate is worth more than the $100,000 threshold, probate is likely. Probate takes a huge bite out of an inheritance, and it can easily be avoided.

Anyone who owns property should have an estate plan An estate plan is really quite simple: it involves written documents stating one's wishes for how property should be distributed after one's death. Property includes real estate and also liquid assets such as cash and securities, plus all the tangible items one has. Even if all you have is a shoebox with your coin collection stored under your bed, you need a written document stipulating how your belongings will be distributed. Even more importantly, regardless of the size of your estate, you need a Durable Power of Attorney and an Advance Health Directive in which you nominate your financial affairs and medical decisions if you are ever unable to do this for yourself due to illness, injury or just plain old age.

Barriers to estate planning Many factors prevent people from making an estate plan while they are well and have their wits about them. For some, it's procrastination. For others, it's denial of the inevitability of old age, illness and death. For many, the dynamics of their families are so complex that it is easier to put off making difficult decisions. In the current economy, many people would prefer not to think about what has happened to their finances. Their estates have, indeed, been diminished by layoffs and furloughs.

An acquaintance who was the advertising director for a major bank is now living off what is left of his daughter's college fund. He has no interest in making plans for what is left of his estate or thinking about retirement because he can't see how he will ever be able to retire, and at the moment he's more worried about whether or not his wife is going be laid off. For this gentleman and others, there's a perception that because his estate is diminished, he has no need for an estate plan. This perception is a misconception.

Your nest egg may be smaller than it used to be, but you still have an estate An "estate" doesn't have to include a stable and tennis courts. For most people, it certainly does not. An estate includes your home in which you've built up equity, your vehicles, jewelry, artwork, your 401(k) and other investments. It includes items that may have little monetary value but a lot of sentimental value. Funny things happen to families when someone dies. Make sure that you have been proactive in creating the necessary estate planning documents so that your property is distributed to your friends and family as per your instructions, avoiding the rancor that accompanies the death of a family member.

Most people die without a Will This is shocking, but true. It can leave a terrible mess for families, and it can easily be prevented. A Will alone can be as simple as a holographic Will, written in one's own handwriting. Or an attorney can advise on the making of a Will and a trust if necessary. When someone does die without even a basic Will, their property does not go to the government as many people think. Rather, the state of California, like all the other states, has a Probate Code in which the government has made a law based on what most people would want to have happen to their property.

Property acquired during marriage goes to a spouse. For those who are not married but have children, the estate is divided equally among them. If one has no spouse or children, one's property goes to parents, siblings or other relatives. If it is your desire to leave property to friends or a charity, that needs to be documented.

Don't wait until dementia incapacitates you or a member of your family If you do not have an estate plan already in place when you are no longer able to make decisions for yourself, someone may need to go to court and petition to become your conservator. A conservatorship, like probate, is very expensive and preventable. A conservatorship is a failure of estate planning. It means someone other than a person of your choice may end up managing your finances and personal care.

Be proactive As an estate planning attorney, I see many scenarios where people wait too long and become physically or mentally unable to make decisions about how their estates will be administered. Making plans while you are still able is a gift to those you love.

How Do Metal Detectors Work?

In 1881, Alexander Graham Bell constructed one of the world's first metal detectors in an attempt to find an assassin's bullet in President James Garfield. Fischer patented a portable version in 1931. From treasure hunting to security screening, metal detectors are used in many a field.

Metal detectors are electronic devices that are used to find traces of metal usually from the ground, a person, or cargo. This metal could be anything from discarded pieces of aluminum to buried treasures. These devices can penetrate sand, soil, wood and other non-metallic substances.

A basic metal detector consists of an electronic box and a battery case on one end, with a handle for the operator's arm. There is a coil, which consists of an insulated wire around a telescoping shaft and into a round plastic disk. This disk comes off the shaft at an angle, which allows it to be held parallel to the ground. The operator grips the electronic box and turns on the power to slowly sweep the coil end over the ground until an electronic signal is heard. This indicates the presence of some metallic element buried beneath the area swept by the coil.

Metal detectors work on the principal of electromagnetism and their effects on conductive metals. The high-powered coil of metal, called the transmitter, uses the battery power to generate a penetrating magnetic field. As the electromagnetic field enters the ground, anything metallic will become charged with magnetism. When the receiver in the coil detects the electromagnetic signature, it sends a signal to the electronic box. A speaker amplifies this signal and the operator hears a beep. Microprocessors located in the electronic box can actually measure the time between the charging and the receiving (called a phase shift) and determine which metals may be present. This is how high-end metal detectors can be adjusted to only search for certain metals.

Metal detectors use one of three technologies:

A beat frequency oscillator detector uses a coil as an inductor in an oscillator. When its frequency changes, so does its inductance. Another oscillator produces a close frequency, and audible beats between them signal metal.

An induction balance detector uses two coils that overlap each other. A sine wave is transmitted with one coil and received with the other. The coils are adjusted so that there is no signal in the receiving coil when there is no metal nearby.

A pulse induction detector generates pulses by cutting off an indicator. This pulse is sent through a coil and the detector listens for echoes.
